This week was the beginning of a new trimester! I was very excited to get started with a new group of students and see what sort of techniques Andy used to set up his classroom at the get-go. Being a new teacher, this isn't something I've ever seen before; they tell you about it in classes but it's different to see it in action. It was also interesting because last trimester, I could rely on the students to understand many of the little details - they had been in class for a few weeks already. This was an interesting week in that it pushed me to learn more about things like Weebly and Reflecting Learning Blogs. Though I am generally bad at using technology, it was good to have help from students in this learning process. I'll get there someday! :)
Another interesting thing that happened this week is that there was a sub on Wednesday! It was both a fun and challenging experience that really tested me. I thought a lot about what Andy does and tried to apply that in the way that I "taught" the class on Wednesday. This helped me to appear not as nervous as I felt. Of course, there's also the phrase, "We learn from our mistakes." However, you can only learn if you are able to try. Experiences inform who we are. Without them, we would be unable to grow. That's what I have been reflecting on since Wednesday, especially because there were definitely bumps along the way. It was my first time doing that sort of thing. It made me think of two concepts: 1) We learn best by teaching others and 2) Experience is key. I'll take the things I learned this week with me into my future and will use them to make sense of future situations.
All in all, it was an interesting week! One for the books, for sure. What I'm really looking forward to is seeing how the rest of the trimester comes together. Last trimester, I didn't have a sense of what the beginning of a trimester was like, so this is like an entirely fresh start! It feels like puzzle pieces coming together.
