It's always a challenge to push your boundaries and try new things. As a non-teaching major with a passion for education, I often find myself out of my depth within a classroom environment where I am expected to take a leadership position. As such, this first week as a pre-student teacher has been very eye opening.
I have begun to learn to connect my experiences as Writing Center worker to the classroom. Although I have not yet taught any lessons, I have begun to nurture reflective habits that I feel will aid me as a potential future teacher. As a person who learns best by doing things, rather than by seeing or hearing, learning to reflect on the "why" of different classroom activities is challenging. However, in developing reflection skills, I find myself better able to learn in a greater variety of situations. In some ways, I have become a more critical student. In my college classes, I find myself thinking of ways I could apply what the professors teach in a high school level classroom. I also have started to take note of things that aren't necessarily as effective for students.
